About the course
The course lasts from September- July, the full academic year.
St George's Academy Partnership is the accredited provider, the course leads to two qualifications.
• You will spend 4 days each week in your 'home' school, working alongside your mentor and colleagues.
• There are six days allocated to subject specialist input with some additional twilight sessions in some subjects also.
• After a period of observation and as you feel confident, your teaching will gradually increase each term.
• By Term 6 your teaching commitment will match that of an NQT so that you are fully prepared for the workload of a qualified teacher.
• There are two assessment points during the year for the PGCE element and three assessment points for the QTS element.
• You will spend one day each week at The University of Lincoln.
The day is split into two half days.
• Researching Education, The Foundations of Education and preparation for the Action Research & PGCE qualification
• The classroom based input covers all elements of teaching and learning linked to The Teacher Standards.

The interview process involves:
• a tour of the school followed by a short reflective task
• a presentation to a small group of students
• an informal meeting with a subject specialist
• an interview with members of the SCITT board
During the day you will meet your potential mentor, departmental colleagues and ITT Lead so that you have a clear idea who you will be working with throughout your training year.
You will be contacted later that day to confirm if you have been successful.
If successful, you will also have the opportunity at a later stage to meet with colleagues at the University of Lincoln to discuss the PGCE course and ask any questions you may have about this element.
You will also need to sit the Professional Skills Tests in Maths and English.
How school placements work
St George's Academy Partnership has twenty-nine partner schools across Lincolnshire. We have large comprehensive schools in urban settings, schools in rural locations and selective single sex and mixed grammar schools within the partnership.
• You choose your 'home' school and apply directly to that school on UCAS. This gives you the opportunity to select a school which is a 'good fit' for you.
• You will spend 5 out of 6 terms in your 'home' school.
• Term 3 Jan-Feb is spent in your 2nd placement school.
• We work with you when selecting your second placement school to ensure that you experience a contrast of setting, age phase etc.
• We take into account your personal circumstances re: transport, childcare etc when arranging your second placement.
• As we are an 11-16 provider, you will be assessed in KS3 and KS4 only.
• All of our trainees gain some experience working with KS5 students.
Trainees also spend one week in a primary school in October to ensure that they are familiar with the KS2 curriculum.

Applicants may be eligible for the Tuition Fees Loan or Maintenance Loan. If you need guidance on this, we are happy to help and advise.
You’ll get a bursary of £26,000 if you have a degree of 2:2 or above in any subject.
You don’t have to apply for a bursary - you’ll automatically start receiving it once you begin your course. Find out how you’ll be paid.

Financial support from the training provider
- Subject Enhancement Courses are available in some subjects which attract a bursary payment.
- We support trainees with additional courses or associated travel costs eg exam board courses, these are considered on an individual basis at the discretion of the partnership.
- The University of Lincoln is able to provide some financial help with transport costs for some students.
You will need to meet the following academic requirements:
- A first degree with honours. Ideally we are looking for 2.2 equivalent or above. We do not rule out lower class degrees.
- You need a grade C(4) or above in English and Mathematics.
If you have studied outside of the UK, check the National Academic Recognition Information Centre (NARIC) website to see if your qualifications are of an equivalent level to UK GCSEs, A-Levels and undergraduate degrees.
- You will need to pass the Professional Skills Tests in Literacy and Numeracy.
We are looking for applicants who have a passion for their subject and a commitment to improving the lives and outcomes of young people. You will need to demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct and be a proactive, resilient and flexible member of a team.
Ideally, we would like you to have some classroom experience so that you know it is the right career for you. We can help you gain experience in any of our partner schools.
You will need to disclose any criminal convictions, cautions or bind-overs and agree to an enhanced criminal record check through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). About the training provider
St George’s Academy Partnership includes twenty-nine schools across Lincolnshire, offering school based teacher training for Primary and Secondary.
The Partnership is the accrediting provider for this course and provides the Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) training and the University of Lincoln provides the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with 60 Master’s Level credits.
- You choose which school you would like to train in and apply directly to that school on UCAS.Schools within the partnership are listed on UCAS.
- You will be a part of a small cohort, enabling us to tailor the programme to meet your personal circumstances such as transport or childcare.
- You will be supported in school by mentors, subject specialists, ITT leads and Programme Leaders.
- Your training is delivered by practising teachers who are up to date with curriculum changes and who are fully aware of the challenges and enormous rewards of a career in teaching.
