Improve your career and promotion prospects: our PGDE is ideal if you wish to move quickly into leadership and management roles within the sector.
Our PGDE Post-14 (Education and Training) gives you a real head start in your teaching career. After you complete this course, you will be eligible to apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status via the Society for Education and Training. Valued by employers, QTLS demonstrates your skills, commitment and knowledge, adding real substance to your CV.
By completing our PGDE Post-14 you will also gain 120 credits at masters level.
How school placements work
Each week, you will spend two days on teaching placement and two days based at the University. You will also undertake a six week block placement in February.
A variety of teaching strategies and methods are used to maximise your learning: practical teaching experience, presentations, workshops, one-to-one, whole group teaching, small group teaching, blended learning and independent learning.
You’ll be expected to demonstrate sound intellectual and academic skills at level 7 through a range of written and practical assignments.

They vary slightly from course to course depending on what facilities and resources are required. For example, online courses tend to be slightly cheaper because they use fewer facilities.

Financial support from the training provider
To pay for your tuition fees and living costs, you may be able to take out a student loan. These loans don’t usually need to be paid back until you have graduated and are earning a good salary.
Sometimes, bursaries and scholarships are also available - it depends on your circumstances and which country you usually live in. These don’t need to be paid back.

You will need an undergraduate degree (minimum 2:2) in a subject that is applicable to the Further Education and Skills sector, such as psychology, law, media, sports and music technology. You will also need GCSE grade C or above in English Language and Maths (or Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy).
A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is required at the point of accepting a place at the University.
If you have lived outside of the UK in the past five years, you will need to provide a current Certificate of Good Conduct from the country you were resident in.
