About the training provider
At Featherstone High School, our students continue to achieve excellent GCSE results and we are regularly placed in the top 10% of schools in the country for progress they make. Our Sixth Form was placed in the top 5% of schools in the country for progress made between GCSE and A levels last year. This exceptional performance has allowed increasing numbers of students to attend some of the top universities in the country.
Featherstone High School is a warm and hardworking community striving for excellence in all we do. We want children to leave school having maximised their academic progress but also to really enjoy learning.
Featherstone High is one of a small number of schools nationally to have been approved by the DfE as a “Sponsor.” This special status means we are able to access government grants to provide support to other
schools. In addition, we are one of very few schools nationally that have recently been awarded the Platinum award for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for the highly effective CPD and training of staff across all levels of the school. We value professional development as a key component to ensure highly effective teaching and learning to give students a rich and rewarding education, filled with exciting and unique possibilities. Our investment in CPD and highly effective teacher training has resulted in outstanding teaching and learning by inspirational teachers who are motivated and passionate about their subjects. Students, irrespective of ability, are stretched and supported with their achievements celebrated.
Training with disabilities and other needs
Our aim is to know each child well in order to support and guide them
so that they make good progress. We have a team dedicated to each year
group in the school and they are the primary provider of pastoral care
and guidance. At Featherstone we strongly believe that every student
should be sufficiently challenged and supported to achieve their very
best and that their successes are celebrated.
Students with additional needs are identified early, taught in small classes and supported by a full-time teaching assistant in class. There
is also a team of learning mentors who support those with social issues
that are affecting their learning. Students receive careers advice
and guidance as they progress up key stage 3 (Years 7 and 8) to 4 (Years 9 to 11) and eventually 5 (6th form) through our extensive careers
education programme, small group tutorials and access to independent
and impartial connexions advice.
Our Student Services department allows continuous support for all students throughout the day for issues relating to medical, social and emotional Well-Being related issues. We have a team of trained First Aiders, Mental Health aiders, a school nurse and a school counselor who are always on hand to support all student needs.
