It may also allow you to teach in the EU, the EEA and Switzerland. You should check with the institution you’d like to teach in for confirmation. The status of QTS in these countries may change after the UK leaves the EU. Please check GOV.UK for updates.

To teach in the rest of the UK or internationally, you may wish to consider a ‘PGCE (or PGDE) with QTS’ qualification instead.

About the training provider

Great Torrington School is in the heart of beautiful North Devon and a short drive from some of the best surfing beaches in the country. In recent years we have won many accolades, including the SSAT Academic Outcomes Award, the Department for Education Character Award and the Pupil Premium Award.

Great Torrington School has built its success on investing in developing teachers. We offer an innovative, evidence based and rich professional development package to all of our staff. This expertise has enabled us to develop a unique teacher training course that is rooted in the latest developments in neuroscience and educational research.

Initial teachers that have followed our training course are given a real boost to the start of their teaching careers. Several of our former trainees have been promoted to management positions whilst in their first year of teaching.

We have strong working relationships with many primary and secondary schools in Devon to ensure that we can find the best school placement to suit the needs of all of our trainee teachers.

Training with disabilities and other needs

Great Torrington School has wheelchair access to all classrooms. This may not be the case in all of our partner schools but any disability will be taken into considerations when finding a placement for each trainee.

As a school. we regularly support people with dyslexia and hearing impairments. We use differentiated resources and new technologies such as reading pens and radio transmitters.
