About the course

  • A highly practical subject and one in which research skills and ownership of ideas are very important aspects. Looking at new ways of working and exploring different media.
  • Delivering new skills, as well as refining the skills already in existence, working alongside enthusiastic students and sharing work, ideas and excitement.
  • Experimenting with new materials and different techniques whilst looking constantly at the ways both artists from the past and young artists today achieve their results.

Interview process

There is an interview at the school as well as a short teaching activity for which you will have planning time. You will teach a group of students and be observed. There will also be a subject interview and a written task.

Tutors from Wolverhampton University will also be part of the interview process.

Visits prior to interview are encouraged please contact the school directly to arrange this.

How school placements work

Students undertake their placement at one school, there are opportunities to visit other schools and also there is a week in a Primary school .

Age range - 11- 16 years.

Financial support

You’ll get a bursary of £9,000 if you have a degree of 2:2 or above in any subject.

You don’t have to apply for a bursary - if you’re eligible, you’ll automatically start receiving it once you begin your course. Find out about eligibility and how you’ll be paid.

Degree preferably in the subject area chosen or a related area. However Subject enhancement course are available if needed. Please check with school.

About the accredited body

Wolverhampton University have been training Education professionals for over 100 years. Teaching training is a significant aspect of our core business and accounts for just under 50% of all activity within the Institute. They provide a provide a sustainable Professional Development model that enhances teacher effectiveness.

The University works with over 400 schools, private providers and colleagues in genuine partnership.

Training with disabilities and other needs

As a Partnership we are committed to inclusion for all and have experienced staff who ensure all needs can be supported. All schools in the Partnership have policies and procedures in place to support trainees with all disabilities or needs and all environments are accessible for all. We do regular and specific risk assessments when needed and seek advice if needed as well.

We have worked previously with a student on work experience who had cerebral Palsy she used the lift in school, we provided her with space in the classrooms where she was comfortable to work and ensured where support was needed it was available. Her placement was very successful.
