Interview process
You should be an honours graduate who can demonstrate a real aptitude for teaching with enthusiasm to continue your professional development.
You should hold a 4 or above in GCSE English and Mathematics.
We want to appoint excellent trainees who are enthusiastic and passionate about teaching and who have the ability and drive to become outstanding practitioners. To be a successful applicant we would expect you to have had some meaningful experience of students of secondary age either via experience in a secondary school or by volunteering with clubs or groups.
You will obviously need a strong understanding and knowledge of the subject you want to teach before you start your training and if your degree subject does not link closely to your chosen teaching subject you are advised to take a Subject Knowledge Enhancement course before your teacher training commences.
At our selection day we are looking for applicants who fulfil the entry requirements and can make relationships and relate to young people
The WWA Alliance Director coordinates the recruitment process in association with Bath Spa University. Interviews are a day in length and will involve working with students, a subject specific activity, the opportunity to talk to staff, students and other applicants and a formal interview. The process will be rigorous but designed to help applicants perform at their best.
How school placements work
The WWA Alliance Director works with colleagues in all 7 schools to decide where trainees will be placed. Each trainee will have two placements each of three terms in length. Teaching age range will be 11-16 with some experience offered 16-18.
Trainees also spend at least one day in all 7 schools as part of our Professional Studies programme.

About the training provider
West Wilts Alliance (WWA) is working with Bath Spa University to provide a unique experience for School Direct trainees. Based in an extremely beautiful and rural part of the country, the area is entrenched with history and idyllic villages as well as being very close to the Georgian city of Bath. Trainees will thoroughly enjoy living and working in West Wiltshire.
The West Wilts Alliance is a ground breaking and innovative company that has brought together secondary schools and Wiltshire College to improve the educational provision for all young people in the area. Seven of our Secondary schools are involved with the School Direct Programme and their diversity of expertise and denomination will mean that trainees will be able to experience a variety of different educational organisations all within a 7 mile radius.
All schools have an extremely successful track record in Initial Teacher Education having trained teachers through PGCE and GTP routes. We recognise the enthusiasm and new ideas that trainees can bring to our school communities and are committed to developing them into the outstanding teachers of tomorrow.
Training with disabilities and other needs
We have excellent support for trainees with disabilities and other needs and have been asked to support extra trainees in the past. We have supported two trainees who developed mental health issues recently, one of whom managed to complete their qualification. We also have experience of supporting trainees with Dyslexia and Autism
