About the course
Our Lady and St. Edward’s Catholic Primary Teaching School has developed an exciting School Direct programme aimed at recruiting and training high quality aspiring primary school teachers.
Working in partnership with Liverpool Hope University, we provide our trainees with a strong school-centred postgraduate route into teaching but with the added benefit of studying for a Masters level for a Postgraduate Certificate as well.
Trainees on our School Direct programme will be allocated a school in our partnership, including faith, non-faith and nursery schools. The majority of time will be spent in a ‘home’ school with additional teaching in an ‘away’ school in the Partnership.
The taught element of our School Direct programme will be delivered by outstanding trainers from our teaching School partnership and Liverpool Hope University – Headteachers, NLEs, experienced consultants and class teachers. Working in partnership with Liverpool Hope University we are able to develop direct training that will have the academic and theoretical underpinning to allow trainees to become outstanding practitioners within the field of education.
This is an excellent route into teaching with us equipping our trainees with the experience and skills needed to become outstanding teachers.
We are seeking individuals who demonstrate and are able to apply the skills of organisation, flexibility, reflection, evaluation and action to all aspects of the course and their career. Enthusiastic individuals who are able to communicate effectively with pupils, colleagues and parents on a range of levels are essential to our partnership.
The School Direct programme offers an outstanding opportunity for our schools to recruit graduates of the highest calibre with the commitment to working in education and become the teachers and school leaders of the future.
School Direct gives us the chance to select and train our own outstanding teachers of the future.
Interviews will be conducted by our ITT Coordinator, a Headteacher from one of our partner schools and a representative from Liverpool Hope University.
The process will consist of a formal interview, a Maths test, a written English task and a short presentation.
How school placements work
Our students will have two teaching placements. The majority of time will be spent in the 'Home School' (Our Lady and St Edward's Catholic Primary School). All students will have a second placement in one of our partner schools which are all rated 'GOOD' or above by Ofsted.
We have ten schools in our Partnership offering us a range of context to draw from.
During the year students will also be offered 'Experience Weeks / Days' including Early Years, SEND and Secondary experience.
The course fees for 2020/2021 are as follows:
GCSE grade C (Grade 4 or above in the new grading system) or equivalent in Maths, English and Science.
You will need to have, or anticipate having a minimum 2.1 degree qualification.
Relevant experience in a school setting is beneficial for your application, but not essential.
Original copies of GCSE and degree certificates must be seen before an offer can be made.
Any offer of a place on the programme is made conditional on satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly the Criminal Records Bureau – CRB) and a satisfactory Fitness to Teach Declaration.
