About the course
The course is focused on being in school full time from the first day of term. You will be allocated a lead school where you will be placed for terms 1 - 3 and then moved to another complimentary placement in a Trust school for terms 3 - 6. You will spend one day per week based at Priory Community School in Weston super Mare receiving dedicated taught provision focused on the Teacher Standards and the skills you need to develop to be an outstanding teacher. You will gradually increase the amount of time you are leading lessons in partnership with your subject mentor. You will receive regular feedback from both your subject and school mentor enabling you to measure your progress and record evidence against the Teacher Standards ahead of accreditation.
The PGCE element of the course comprises of 4 assessments each worth 15 Masters credit and a final portfolio which will be assessed for QTS recommendation.
Candidates will have access to a full taught programme based in Weston super Mare during their course but will also have the option to access events and lectures which are held at the University site in Plymouth.
The Trust has a 100% employment rate for School Direct trainees for 2017/18 with all trainees who completed the course gaining permanent employment in the Trust.
Candidates will be invited to an informal interview in Weston super Mare where they will meet and talk to the school based mentor, the relevant Head of Department/School for their specialism and the Director of the Teaching School Alliance. They will also be asked to plan and deliver a mini teaching episode to a small group of students to enable us to see them interact with our students.
How school placements work
Candidates will be placed during the duration of the course in 2 secondary schools within the Trust. All 3 secondary schools in the Trust are within a 12 mile radius - 20 minute drive of each other. You will be able to teach students from 11 to 16, with the option to extend this to post 16. Candidates will be in their host school for a minimum of 4 days per week.

About the training provider
The Priory Learning Trust is based in Weston super Mare in the South West of the UK. The Trust is made up of 3 secondary schools - Priory Community School an Academy, Worle Community School an Academy and The King Alfred School, an Academy. The Trust is also proud to include 2 primary Schools - St Anne's Church Academy and Castle Batch Primary School Academy. The Trust provides education for children aged 3 - 18 across the school sites. The Trust focus is students first, cherishing staff and it is proud to now provide education for 5000 students and employ 500 staff.
Those who choose to train with The Priory Learning Trust can look forward to a quality programme which will ensure they are supported and developed by a subject mentor and school based mentor. Delivery of the university content of the PGCE will be done on site at Priory Community School and delivered by specialist staff from across the Trust in alignment with the University of St Mark & St John. Quality Assurance will be provided by the University with University Tutors also supporting and assessing the progress of our trainees.
Training with disabilities and other needs
All school sites in the Trust are fully accessible to wheelchair users. Support can be provided for trainees with dyslexia in relation to assistive technology. All of the schools in the Trust have supporting staff and student mental health at the heart of their provision with a wide range of support available including access to 24/7 counselling and occupational health where required.
