About the course
During your course you will gain the benefits of assimilating early on into schools within our MAT, as well as gaining tuition and expertise from Leeds Beckett which has an excellent track record in Physical Education Initial Teacher Education.
- Stage 1 - September - December - Introduction to Teaching.
You will spend the first few weeks in University exploring methods of teaching.. You will initially be observing, but will lead up to teaching some lessons by Christmas. You develop your professional studies in cross-trust development sessions with senior members of staff. From October until Christmas you will be based in your placement school.
- Stage 2 - January- March Developing your Knowledge.
You will be in your second placement school five days a week , building up to 60% of an NQT timetable - 12 lessons a week.
- Stage 3 March until June . 9 weeks of school placement, with some university days. By the end you will be teaching about 16 lessons a week.
You will qualify with a PGCE and be ready for a successful career in teaching.
You will be invited to interview at one of our academies. The interview panel will comprise of the Head of Training for the Rodillian, a subject expert, and another senior leader. A tutor from Leeds Trinity University may also be in attendance. The day will comprise of:
- A welcome talk.
- A University set written task.
- A short teaching task which will be set on invitation to interview.
- A tour given by students
- A formal interview.
How school placements work
All our schools are easily accessible from the M62 corridor. You will mostly be teaching in the 11-16 age range, but there may be opportunities for gaining sixth form experience. We place trainees based on the availability of quality mentors within a school, but will take into consideration any special requests.
The course fees for 2019/2020 are as follows:
A degree with relevant content , classification 2:1 or above.
