A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) allows you to teach in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It’s also recognised internationally.

Many PGCE courses include credits that count toward a Master’s degree.

About the course

Interview process

Candidates whose application form shows that they meet our short-listing criteria will be invited to an Interview Day.

The selection process will usually involve:

*A classroom-based task

*Time with staff/departments

*A formal interview

*A written task

How school placements work

The School Direct route offers trainees an extended Professional Practice placement in one main school (called a “Base School”), supplemented by an additional placement (half a term) in a contrasting school.

This ensures a varied and balanced experience of teaching in different settings, whilst allowing you to contribute significantly to the life of your Base School.

Fees

The course fees for 2020/2021 are as follows:

Eligible UK and EU students can apply for a tuition fee loan to cover the cost of tuition fees from the government which you repay gradually through small monthly repayments.

Financial support

You’ll get a bursary of £26,000 if you have a degree of 2:2 or above in any subject.

You don’t have to apply for a bursary - if you’re eligible, you’ll automatically start receiving it once you begin your course. Find out about eligibility and how you’ll be paid.

You may also be eligible for a loan while you study.

Requirements

Qualifications

*Minimum 2.2 degree or above

*GCSE Level 4 (Grade C) or above in English and Maths

Ideally you'll have studied a degree in the languages or a related discipline.

If you have a good A-Level in this subject, you may still be considered by completing a Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) programme. Make sure you mention you would be willing to do this in your UCAS application.

We are looking for inspiring, knowledgeable and ambitious trainee teachers who are passionate and enthusiastic about their school phase and/or subject specialism and have a desire to share this and make a real difference to young people's lives and futures.
