QTS (qualified teacher status) allows you to teach in state schools in England.

It may also allow you to teach in the EU, the EEA and Switzerland. You should check with the institution you’d like to teach in for confirmation. The status of QTS in these countries may change after the UK leaves the EU. Please check GOV.UK for updates.

To teach in the rest of the UK or internationally, you may wish to consider a ‘PGCE (or PGDE) with QTS’ qualification instead.

How school placements work

School placements follow the same timings as those set out by UWE. There will be two placements over the year lasting 4 months each. The placements will be guaranteed to be within one of the following schools:

Almondsbury CE Primary School (BS32 4DS)

Hambrook Primary School (BS16 1SJ)

Olveston CE Primary School (BS35 4DB)

St Helen’s CE Primary School (BS35 2QX)

St Michael’s CE Primary School (Winterbourne BS36 1LG)

St Peter’s Anglican and Methodist School (BS35 4JG)

The lead school and partner schools have had a long history of providing positive experiences for student placements with a variety of ITT partners such as UWE and Bath Spa. These have been very successful as the staff within each school have many years of experience in supporting students. The lead school also has on staff a current UWE student practice tutor. We have a strong partnership with our ITE provider with links that allow us to develop our practice as a school further as well. The staff are experienced in providing excellent support and tutelage to ensure their placements are the best possible experiences. Each student who has attended placements have found that they have further developed their knowledge and understanding in concrete practical ways that have informed their practice beyond that they would have received within other schools.

The schools are selected to compliment your experiences in contrasting environments.

The course fees for 2019/2020 are as follows:
