About the course
St Andrew's Teaching School Alliance offers:
- A demanding and intensive course which will lead to a recommendation of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE 5-11) accredited by the University of Manchester.
How school placements work
School Direct trainees on our programme will complete placements in two different schools, teaching in different age phases at each one.
Additionally, trainees will also complete shorter secondary and SEND placements.
The course fees for 2020/2021 are as follows:
- A good degree (2.1 or above) in a relevant subject.
- GCSEs Grade C or above in English, mathematics and science. These can be pending but required before enrolment.
- A level qualifications in relevant subjects are desirable.
- A desire to teach and inspire children.
- The ability to articulate views on the principles and practice of education as it relates to the teaching of the primary phase.
- The ability to communicate clearly, fluently and accurately in spoken and written Standard English.
- The ability to present information and communicate well verbally and in writing.
- Strong organisational skills.
Offers will be subject to a successful interview, as well as a Health Check Statement and an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
A good reference.
Relevant experience in a primary school setting within the last twelve months is beneficial for your application but not essential.

St Andrew's has a strong history of teacher training; we have had great success in providing placements for primary trainees. All students on our School Direct programme have graduated with good or outstanding grades.
Our teachers are exemplary practitioners, keen to share their practice and able to offer subject specialist knowledge. Pupil behaviour in the Alliance is excellent and our children are enthusiastic and willing to learn. Training to teach with us is stimulating, challenging and rewarding.
Successful trainees are recommended for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) which includes 60 Masters level credits which can be used towards a Masters qualification.
