Alfreton Nursery School is an outstanding Derbyshire County Council School based in Alfreton, Derbyshire. The school has been consistently outstanding for the past 20 years and was accredited as a National Teaching School in September 2015 in recognition of its hard work and collective drive to constantly raise standards in school.

The alliance provides opportunities for working in both urban and rural settings, within diverse communities. Our specialisms include Early Years, KS1, Primary, a Special Needs School, Specialist Units and Secondary.

The rich opportunities available from working in staff teams within our alliance offers you, our graduates, the high quality opportunities for the foundations of your teaching career.

We offer enhanced Teacher Training for professional studies, building inclusive practitioners, skilled in Special Educational Needs, behaviour for learning and closing the achievement gap, harnessing expertise from our strategic partners.

From the first day of term you will be fully immersed in our staff teams and hit the ground running, attending staff meetings and development days.

You will spend most of your school year in one host school, gradually increasing the amount of time spent in the role of a teacher. The course also involves placements in other schools.

There are no formal examinations however there will be regular assessments with your University tutor and school mentor.

Our mentors are good and outstanding teachers who will support you throughout your learning.

We will inspire you to teach and look forward to hearing more about you.

About the accredited body

We also work in partnership with Warwick and Harrington Nursery School to innovate new ways of inspiring the next generation of teachers. You will be immersed in outstanding practice with the benefits of the lecturers coming to you. Alfreton Nursery and Harrington Nursery School hold joint training so students have the opportunity to study alongside their peers during group sessions based at Harrington Nursery School, Derby and at Alfreton Nursery School.

All trainee teachers will be mentored by a teacher and University tutor.
