A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) allows you to teach in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It’s also recognised internationally.

Many PGCE courses include credits that count toward a Master’s degree.

About the course

Connect TSA works in partnership with LTSA SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) and a network of Teaching Schools across Lincolnshire to deliver high quality school-based primary and secondary teacher training. Training places are available through the SCITT (core) and School Direct training programmes; all trainee teachers will follow the same programme irrespective of the route.

*A bespoke training programme which blends QTS and PGCE, thereby gaining QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) with a PGCE with 60 Masters’ credits upon successful completion of the training year

*Strong partnership with the University of Lincoln, including access to the University’s facilities

Interview process

We conducts a rigorous selection process in order to secure the best candidates for the teaching profession. If shortlisted you are invited to a formal selection day.

This will take place in a school, conducted by the programme leaders of the course in conjunction with school leaders.

The activities may include:

*A formal interview

*For secondary : A short presentation to a group of pupils on an area of your subject which interests you

*For Primary : A small group activity with primary school children

*A literacy and numeracy task

At selection, preferences for training schools will be discussed with applicants.

Primary applicants - you will then be invited to spend two days in a primary school which may then provide your training.

Secondary applicants, you will then be invited to spend a day in the school which may provide your training.

Here you will have the opportunity to meet senior leaders and staff in the school , spending time in the classroom.

A formal offer of training will then be made through UCAS Teacher Training.

How school placements work

Trainees are in their main training school from the first day of the academic year, thereby gaining an insight into how teachers establish the learning environment and build relationships with pupils and staff. Trainees are in school four days a week throughout the year with one day per week spent in training.

In addition, after the Christmas break trainees have a second placement in a contrasting school to develop their awareness of a range of school settings.

All entrants must hold a first degree of a United Kingdom higher education institute or equivalent. A first degree comprises 300 HE credit points of which 60 must be at a level 6. The degree should be at a minimum of 2:2, but third class degrees will be considered when there is supportive additional evidence.

GCSEs at grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics, or equivalent, for secondary trainees.

GCSEs at grade C/4 or above in English, Mathematics and a Science, or equivalent, for primary trainees.

Other requirements

You will need to pass the Professional Skills Tests in Literacy and Numeracy before starting the course. These are designed to test whether you have the basic level of literacy and numeracy needed to teach to a national standard.

LTSA SCITT will also undertake the relevant safeguarding checks before your training commences, including an Enhanced DBS check. LTSA SCITT will give you full support in completing these checks once you have had an offer of training.

Connect Teaching School Alliance works in partnership with The Lincolnshire Teaching School Alliance SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) to provide a dynamic and supportive environment in which to learn to teach in both the primary and secondary sectors. Lincolnshire Teaching School Alliance (LTSA) SCITT works with a number of Teaching School Alliances, Lead schools and placement schools to offer a highly regarded training programme, where trainees are supported by experienced and committed staff.

Schools who host LTSA SCITT trainees are committed to continued professional development and see the initial training of teachers as the first step on the journey to becoming an outstanding teacher. Beyond the training year structured induction and development programmes are offered in our schools.

About the accredited body

Our trainees value being part of a school from the beginning of their training. With the support of our experienced central team and school-based staff, trainees are given every opportunity to meet and exceed the Teachers’ Standards and so be awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

LTSA SCITT also believes that professional practice is enhanced by academic research. The University of Lincoln co-delivers on our training programme and on the successful completion of academic assignments trainees are also awarded a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) with 60 Masters’ credits.

Training with disabilities and other needs

We recognise the needs of all its trainees and will work collaboratively with trainees and schools to put a support plan in place when required.

In addition, all trainees are students of the University of Lincoln and as such have access to the full range of support offered by the university.
