Requirements

Qualifications

Before starting your training you will need:

  • GCSE minimum grade C (new grade 4) in English, maths and science or equivalent.
  • 2:2 or above bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Passed the National Skills Tests in maths and English.

Personal qualities

It is important to gain classroom-based experience in a primary school. For example, this could be as a Teaching Assistant or volunteering in class for a few hours each week. By gaining this experience you will be better prepared to start the programme. Importantly it will inform you whether teaching is the right career choice for you.

About the training provider

We are committed to developing outstanding teachers, helping to close the gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers and providing opportunities for all pupils to excel.

If you have a passion for igniting the potential of children, which should be at the heart of great education, this is the programme for you!

The programme is managed jointly by Lead Schools and a dedicated team within the Local Authority. We are an established provider of the ITT programme with over 15 years of experience, awarded Outstanding in our last Ofsted inspection.

Training covers the whole primary age range. We train with schools across East Sussex and surrounding areas. The programme is one year, full-time leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). During the year you will train alongside experienced teaching staff, building up your teaching practice as the year progresses.

The SCITT will be running drop-in information events over the weeks ahead. Visit our website for more information.

Training with disabilities and other needs

East Sussex Teacher Training Partnership SCITT welcomes applications from all sections of the community, and recognises and values the diversity of trainees recruited to the programme including those with a disability.

We want to ensure that all the attributes, talents and skills available throughout the community are recognised and our principle is that training places should be filled by those best able to fulfil the requirements of the programme.

With partnership schools, the SCITT will support with adjustments to training to assist trainees with a disability.
