About the course
Upton Meadows Primary School Alliance works in partnership with the University of Northampton.
Interviews are held at the University of Northampton and if candidates are successful they will be invited for a further interview at Upton Meadows Primary School. During this interview process the candidates will be observed working with a group of children.
How school placements work
Successful candidates will have three placements in schools over the Year. They will complete placement 1 and 3 in their preferred Key Stage and the shorter placement 2 in their alternative Key Stage. Upton Meadows will arrange for these placements to be contrasting schools to give the candidates a variety of experience in schools.

There will be additional costs for travel to placements, optional visits within modules, and paper based materials for recording and storage of evidence. We provide financial support for your placement travel costs according to the annually reviewed process.
You must hold an honours degree from a UK University (or equivalent) and whenever possible the classification should be a 2:1 or First. It is considered that you will benefit from school experience before the course starts.
You will need to have a minimum of five GCSE passes at grade C/4 or above and these must include Mathematics, English Language and Science. You must have these before applying. You will be interviewed and you will need to undertake DBS, and Health checks.
You must pass the NCTL skills tests in Numeracy and Literacy prior to enrolling on the course.
About the training provider
Upton Meadows Primary School is the lead school in an alliance of seven local schools in Northampton. We work in partnership with the University of Northampton to offer Schools Direct Initial Teacher Training and to ensure that you leave us well equipped to embark upon your career in the classroom. The schools in our alliance offer a diverse range of experiences from small village schools to large urban schools and everything in between.
We ensure you are fully supported to get QTS. In addition to QTS you will also graduate with PGCE which includes 60 credits towards a full Master's degree. Our School Direct training course is ideal for trainees who are looking for hands-on in-school training, learning from teachers who deliver lessons every day, as well as pedagogy and theory from the University of Northampton. We have a good record of employment with our trainees, many of whom go on to gain employment within our alliance.
