About the course

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about Biology and are excited about passing this knowledge on to the young people in our schools. This is what one of our Biology teacher said about teaching their subject:

I thoroughly enjoy teaching Biology. I love giving the students a new perspective in which they can perceive the world around them, from the smallest of microorganisms they cannot see, to the largest of mammals. Through studying Biology, students understand the purpose of everyday things and it gives the natural world more relevance to them. My most favourite thing to do with students is dissection, hearing squeals of excitement and sometimes disgust is always great fun.

Our training programme allows our students the maximum time in the classroom with our practitioners. You will start in school in the first days of September and spend a minimum of 3 days a week in the classroom. Our training sessions are held in our local training centre or in schools and led by our alliance staff.

You will spend one day per week on the PGCE element of your programme, this is delivered online through the University of Exeter.

We believe that the support we provide is one of our strengths, with local support from our delivery team, the staff and mentors in schools and the full support of a University tutor and the University teams.

For us its the first step in the journey to joining the best profession in the world and becoming part of an Alliance that sees this as part of a lifetime career journey. We support our staff throughout their careers and this starts with specialist support as an NQT and early career teacher, we also offer the opportunity to continue with Masters study from your NQT year.

Why wouldn't you want to study with us in Cornwall? We are waiting to hear from you.

The programme will allow you to spend time in two main placements both different in their context. (1 x 2 terms, 1 x 1 term) There will also be opportunities to visit other secondary settings and our primary, special school and pupil referral provision partners.

Our aim is for all of our trainees to be successful and with that in mind we take into consideration each individuals personal situation and endeavour to place them so that they have no more than a 40 minute journey to work.

Our current school direct trainees have already found themselves in the classroom, on the beach and receiving training in a variety of school settings.
