About the course
School Direct is a one year course which offers the opportunity to spend the majority of time in school, learning directly from experienced professionals. Professional Studies is provided by Higher Education Institutes and involves university-centred training once a week. Through lectures, workshops and assignments the theoretical aspect of teaching and Professional Studies supports practice in the classroom leading to the award of a P.G.C.E. and Qualified Teacher Status and 60 credits to Masters.
This course will prepare you to teach all aspects of Sociology in secondary school. You will learn about current developments in the teaching of Sociology and its place in the National Curriculum at GCSE.
The course will also enable the trainee to spend a period of time in a contrasting school placement arranged by Teach Wimbledon.

How school placements work
In the first instance, candidates select the school they would like to train at.
Teach Wimbledon will organise an away placement and all of the schools are based within the London borough of Merton and therefore within close proximity.
We are partnered with 6 Secondary schools and as part of the course trainees are expected to attend 6 weeks in another school. The rest of the year will be spent at the home chosen school.

The University offer a range of financial support, including generous scholarships, a Student Hardship Fund for those in financial difficulty, access to postgraduate student loans and personal advice on budgeting.
- GCSEs at grade C or level 5 above including English, maths.
Degree classification of 2:2 or above
UCL recommends that you aim to gain some experience in a classroom prior to interview

Welcome to Teach Wimbledon
Working alongside Roehampton University, University of London and St Mary's University, Teach Wimbledon leads an Alliance and a unique school direct partnership with 16 schools in Merton.
School Direct is a route into teaching which enables graduates to be employed by the school where their training takes place for the year with an expectation that this will continue once the programme is successfully completed.
We lead the provision of training opportunities at Primary level and in a wide range of subjects at Secondary level.
First and Second year, 100% job offers within Teach Wimbledon secured.
Qualification leads to PGCE/60 masters credit and QTS. (No 3rd degrees allowed for any entry requirements)
