About the course
One of the main characteristics of the Basingstoke Alliance SCITT Programme is its focus on the individual needs of the trainee. The trainee will be allocated a personal mentor and together they will plan what they consider to be the best way of enabling the trainee to meet all the QTS standards. The SCITT Manager and Board Subject Tutors will support trainees and mentors in this goal as much as they can. Trainees and mentors will organise teaching and school-based input to ensure a balanced timetable; this will be done at the beginning of the training to ensure the trainee fulfils all the requirements in terms of coverage. Trainees are required to attend a course of central training, which complements the school-based training. The dates of central training will be built into the trainee’s calendar for the year. The Standards File and Learning Plan (SFaLP) is designed to help trainees to plan the training; it is completed every week, identifying foci of thinking and work for the coming days.
Once we receive an application via UCAS your application will be acknowledged and reviewed by the BASCITT Management Committee. If you are successfully offered an interview you will be invited to attend one of our pre-scheduled dates hosted by a partnership school that will consist of;

How school placements work
The BASCITT placements are carefully planned and consideration is given to individual trainees, placement schools and staffing.
• A Home School Teaching Placement – Autumn Term – KS3/4
• A Second School Placement – Spring Term 1 – KS3/4
• A Diversity Placement looking at Transition and other Government priorities – Spring Term 2 – KS2/5
• Home School teaching and Assessment period – Summer Term
The course fees for 2019/2020 are as follows:
• Normally a relevant good degree of a UK HE institution in National Curriculum core or foundation subject (other degrees and overseas qualifications with appropriate content will be considered alongside relevant experience);
• Appropriate ‘A’ level or equivalent qualifications;
• Grade C (or equivalent) in GCSE Mathematics and English;
• Confidence in using appropriate ICT skills;
• Completion of Professional Skills Tests in Literacy & Numeracy;
• Overseas applicants must supply NARIC equivalency evidence of qualifications
The BASCITT are looking for applicants who are willing to make a difference to the lives of the pupils they teach. This often means working outside the school environment and beyond the traditional end of the school day. As a trainee you will be working with a variety of stakeholders - from pupils to parents, teachers to peers.
We are looking for commitment, enthusiasm and passion. A true professional and resilient as well as good communication and organisation skills.
• Ten days school placement experience before commencing course.
• Ability to travel between different training locations within the partnership schools;
• A completed self-declaration health questionnaire.
• Attendance of induction days prior to course start date.

About the training provider
This programme has been designed and is delivered by groups of schools and colleges within Basingstoke. BASCITT offers a distinctive form of ITT, combining ‘on the job training’ with the theoretical underpinning. For trainees, one of the most significant advantages of SCITT training is that, from day one, they are in a secondary school environment, acquiring the knowledge and skills required for effective teaching. Schools have a direct interest in the quality of teachers entering the profession. This course aims to provide a steady supply of outstanding entrants to the profession. Partnership schools involvement in training will enhance the professional development of their staff and this will lead to the enhancement of the quality of teaching and learning.

BASCITT has 14 partner schools (www.basingstokealliancescitt.com). Common characteristics is the schools enthusiasm/ability to provide a high quality training environment, where trainees can learn from placements supported by experienced, skilled and committed practitioners. The strong leadership and collaboration across the partnership supports a personalised training programme which produces highly professional and reflective teachers who are fully versed in practical experience, based on educationally sound and effective research and theory. 100% employment, 74% of our NQT's are employed in Basingstoke. Having created a formal pathway opportunity from ITT-CPD and support NQT's and also teachers in in SEN and our Mentoring/Coaching Framework.
Training with disabilities and other needs
BASCITT is an accredited provider of ITT and lead by Dove House School Academy an outstanding special school. Our vision is to enhance the life chances of the local community and beyond by providing high quality training to the teachers and leaders of the future ensuring the pupils of tomorrow have access to outstanding provision.
A unique feature of this training programme is the emphasis which we place on the knowledge of SEN. We deliver a minimum of 20 hours central training on SEN to all our trainees and facilitate the deployment of this knowledge during school diversity placements for trainees to experience, observe and participate in the teaching of children with SEN within a specialist environment. Enabling trainees to develop a SEN specialism providing an excellent knowledge base for employment both in mainstream and special schools.
Trainees who pursue the SEN option will have their main placement (autumn and summer term) in a secondary special school with their contrasting experience in a secondary mainstream context. This will enable them to gain first-hand experience in teaching children with SEN within a specialist environment. The school’s professional themes programme provides trainees with an opportunity to further develop their knowledge and application of effective teaching and learning of children with SEN.
We are mindful of equality and diversity and support our own trainees with specific needs. We have systems and processes in place to support trainees with for example dyslexia, dyspraxia, mental health as well as physical conditions.
