About the course
As a school based provider of initial teacher training, CTSN SCITT is very much grounded in the life of its local schools. All the tutors on the course are expert, practising teachers, able to guide trainees into a thorough understanding of all aspects of the primary curriculum and appropriate pedagogy, informed by both research and the tutors’ own practice. During the course, trainees will spend one day (usually Thursdays) in Core Training, and the remaining 4 days a week in school. Whilst in school, trainees carry out specific teaching tasks, which will increase throughout the year, but also have plenty of time to get involved in other training activities: observing experienced teachers; working with children in smaller groups; one-to-one tutoring; time for assessment and planning; reading, writing and research into effective learning and teaching. Every trainee has a mentor (usually the class teacher) with whom teaching and other tasks are planned and evaluated at weekly mentor meetings; these meetings are the hub of the school based training. In addition, each trainee is assigned to one of the senior tutor team and each trainee also has a personal tutor. This provides a strong support network for the trainee throughout the course. Trainees will have a choice of attending core training in either Cambridge or Bury St Edmunds. The course will lead to the award of both QTS and PGCE (The University of Greenwich). For further details please follow the link to CTSNSCITT.
Interview process
At interview you will usually be asked to teach a Key Stage One or Key Stage Two class for around 20-30 minutes; you will be advised of the year group prior to interview. In addition there will be a short written task, a maths test based on the Key Stage Two maths expectations and an interview with a SCITT Senior Tutor, together with a senior teacher from one of our partnership schools.
How school placements work
We have excellent relationships with a wide range of good and outstanding schools, across the Eastern region, which gives us considerable flexibility in placing trainees in local schools, within reach from their home. You will spend the first term in one school and then, after Christmas, move to a contrasting school for the remainder of the course.
Fees
£9,250, often covered with a student loan. You would also qualify for a means tested maintenance loan. For further information please follow the link to the Department for Education - Get into Teaching Website.
Financial support
You may be eligible for a loan while you study.
Find out about financial support if you’re from outside the UK.
Requirements
Qualifications
You would need a minimum of a 2.2 Honours Degree (or overseas equivalent confirmed by NARIC UK). Also, you would need to have GCSE qualifications (grade C/4 or better) in Mathematics, English and Science, or a confirmed equivalent qualification.
Personal qualities
As a school based ITT provider, CTSN SCITT works very closely with its partnership schools, and the vast majority of our trainees get jobs working in these local schools. We are looking for creative, proactive, positive applicants who share our commitment that children in our local schools should have the best possible teachers, and a desire and determination to make this commitment a reality.
About the training provider
At Anglian Gateway we work closely with a growing partnership of schools and our ITT provider to develop successful, highly motivated teachers for the future.
Our joint mission with our ITT provider is to recruit and retain high quality candidates into teaching to meet the needs of our locality as well as nationally. We provide personalised programmes which are delivered by excellent classroom practitioners and specialist leaders of education.
We are offering places on the salaried and non-salaried School Direct training programmes for both primary and secondary.
If you want your initial teacher training to put theory into practice, to gain confidence with increasing classroom experience and to benefit from the skills of experienced successful practitioners then this one year school centred training programme is worthy of consideration.

Training with disabilities and other needs
"Training with disabilities and other needs.
Teachers with disabilities make an important contribution to schools both in the classroom and in shaping the wider culture and ethos of the schools they work in. Schools value diversity and the unique contribution that all their staff and trainees bring. If you have a disability, you shouldn’t be dissuaded from applying. If you are invited to attend an interview, and have any special requirements, please let us know beforehand so that we may make reasonable adjustments for you. We want all interview candidates to have an equitable and enjoyable experience, regardless of any disability. Full details are on the Department for Education website.
All trainees are required to complete a medical check when they receive the offer of a training place. This will identify if there are adjustments required. As a training provider, CTSN will make such adjustments in our training. We encourage all trainees to disclose all relevant information with their placement schools as this will enable them to make suitable provision. Schools have experience of making provisions for their own students and are therefore well placed to offer similar adjustments for trainee teachers. If you receive an offer, but have not yet disclosed a disability or other need, you can disclose at any time. "
