About the course
Our School Direct course consists of a variety of learning experiences, focused on practical training in teaching and learning related skills. This practical training is underpinned by the development of participant’s knowledge and understanding of education theories, ideas and concepts and by enhancing their awareness of current educational issues and developments.
This course will be delivered in partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University, who will award both Qualified Teacher Status and 60 Masters level credits as a PGCE on successful completion.
All programmes include a panel interview where we are looking to find our more about your skills, knowledge, experience and passion.
The interview process takes place over a half-day at our lead School St Peter's RC High School.

- a personal interview designed to identify your suitability and commitment to teaching
- a short presentation
- a subject knowledge assessment
- identity and qualification checks (please provide photographic ID, proof of address and copies of your academic qualifications)
All offers we make after interview will be conditional on; successful completion of the professional skills tests, satisfactory medical clearance, clearance through the Disclosure and Barring service, validation of any declared qualification and the acquisition of any pending qualifications. Individual offers may have additional conditions and you are advised to carefully read these.
How school placements work
You will become part of your main placement school team from September, this is earlier than University led programmes. You will receive intensive support from our experienced team of teachers and mentors from the beginning of your placement. You will build your skills through observation, reflection, and attendance at both alliance training sessions and university led sessions. This will support you in building your skill set towards teaching whole class lessons, and then onto a significant timetable by the end of the year.
The course fees for 2019/2020 are as follows:
- Degree classification minimum of a 2:2 undergraduate honours degree awarded by a UK university, or an equivalent higher education qualification. Your degree needs to support the subject knowledge requirements of the National Curriculum for Religious Education.
- GCSEs at grade C/4 or above in English Language and Mathematics.
- Appropriate post-16 qualifications.
Our strongest applicants have undertaken some observation in a school and reflected on their experiences and the role of the teacher.
All School Direct PGCE applicants will need to pass pre-entry Professional Skills Tests in Numeracy and Literacy.

About the training provider
Teach Manchester is an experienced School Direct Alliance of primary, secondary, specialist and sixth form schools and colleges based in central Manchester, working in partnership to offer innovative and exciting Initial Teacher Education. We are committed to providing an outstanding programme of support to training teachers so that they develop into confident and competent teachers who can contribute to the culture of excellence across the alliance and beyond.
We work in partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Manchester and University of Cumbria to offer innovative and exciting Initial Teacher Education across primary, primary with SEND and secondary subject specialisms. Our programme equips new teachers with the skills and knowledge to be outstanding teachers and is delivered by our Specialist Leaders of Education, School Leaders and colleagues from our university partners. Upon successful completion of our programme you will be awarded both Qualified Teacher Status and 60 Masters Level Credits as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) by our partner universities.

Training with disabilities and other needs
All successful applicants are required to undergo a Fitness to Teach assessment as a condition of offer. These are undertaken by the Occupational Health contractor of the partner university.
We encourage all applicants with disabilities and other needs to talk to us individually regarding their needs and how we can best support them during the period between accepting an offer and the start of the course to ensure that we can make appropriate arrangements. We will use information from the applicant and from professional referrals (for example GPs, Occupational Health, Education Psychologist) as appropriate to provide support on an individual basis.
We work collaboratively with our accrediting universities to support students; and services such as counselling are available through the partner university.
