About the course

The David Ross Education Trust works in partnership with the University of Northampton.

The programme is aimed at those who want to teach children in the 5–11 age range, that is, at Key Stages 1 and 2.

In order to be awarded Qualified Teacher Status trainees must meet the Teachers' Standards set by the Government and so the programme is designed to enable trainees to achieve this by offering a balance of school and University-based periods during the year.

The programme is one-year, full-time and its structure is closely linked to the term dates of local schools, with registration taking place in early September and the course finishing at the end of June.

Interview process

Interviews are held at the University of Northampton and if candidates are successful they will be invited for a further interview at an academy within the Trust. During this interview process the candidates will be observed working with a group of children.

How school placements work

Successful candidates will have three placements in schools over the Year. Usually they will complete placement 1 and 3 in the same school and the second placement 2 in their alternative Key Stage in a different school. The David Ross Education Trust will arrange for these placements to be contrasting schools to give the candidates a variety of experience in schools.

Fees

The course fees for 2020/2021 are as follows:
Student type Fees to pay

EU students £9,250

Fees are paid to the University of Northampton (see the University of Northampton website for details).

There will be additional costs for travel to placements, optional visits within modules, and paper based materials for recording and storage of evidence. We provide financial support for your placement travel costs according to the annually reviewed process
