About the course

Trainees will gain the knowledge and understanding of how to teach Biology to 11-16 year olds.

All secondary trainees will have one day a week Professional Learning which will be held at Bishop Ramsey School, Lead School for Hillingdon SCITT.

Trainees training to teach Secondary Biology will be based in schools 4 days a week and will teach Key Stages 3 and 4 during the academic year, with some exposure to Key Stage 5. The amount of lessons that trainees will teach will increment during the year.

All trainees will be assessed against the Teacher Standards at calendared intervals throughout the year.

All trainees will train to teach in two different schools. Trainees will also have the opportunity to observe teaching and learning in other educational settings eg. Special Schools and Pupil Referral Unit.

Interview process

Bishop Ramsey School, the Lead School for Hillingdon SCITT, co-ordinates the recruitment process.

The interview process will involve a full day spent at one of the partner schools. The day will include teaching a lesson or working with a group of students which will be observed by a qualified teacher, a short presentation, literacy and numeracy tests and an interview. There will also be opportunity to talk to some staff and pupils and possibly a tour of the school.

You will be told in advance about the content of the lesson and the age group you will be teaching and you will be able to prepare for your presentation too.

It is a rigorous and thorough process, designed to get the best match of applicant to the places available

How school placements work

Most of the Partnership Schools are located within a few miles from Junction 1 of the M40. Brunel University is located in Uxbridge, North-West London. The nearest underground station is Uxbridge, from which it is about 15 minutes' walk from the Main Site Campus or a short bus ride.
