About the course

All Hallows Catholic School works with the University of Chichester, and as such will be required to attend specific training days at the University. As well as specific subject knowledge candidates will be taught pedagogical skills and be assessed regularly through assignments and essays which are set by the University.

Interview process

Interview by the Headteacher, Head of Department and a representative from School Direct Provider University of Chichester. One interview to be held at the school, there will be a short literacy test and candidates will teach approximately 20 minutes of a Key Stage 3 lesson.

How school placements work

Candidates will be expected to teach across two Key Stages e.g. KS3 and KS4. The candidates will undertake a 6 week placement in their second school, the PCT liaises with local schools to arrange this, (the distance candidates have to travel from home is taken into consideration). There is a further 3 day placement at a primary school, 2 days at an FE college and 1 day at an SEN school. The remaining time is based in the main school with staggered training days at the University.

Unqualified teachers' pay scales plus fringe. It is possible for candidates in shortage subjects to apply for bursaries to meet their training costs. In this instance candidates will not receive a salary.

Financial support

Financial support isn’t available for this course because it comes with a salary.

If you choose a course without a salary, you may be eligible for financial support while you study, including bursaries, scholarships and loans.
