A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) allows you to teach in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It’s also recognised internationally.

Many PGCE courses include credits that count toward a Master’s degree.

About the training provider

The Compton School is the 'Lead School' for 28 excellent Primary and Secondary schools in North London. As a lead school, The Compton School work with The Compton SCITT and UCL Institute of Education to offer a full range of Initial Teacher Training (ITT) courses.

The Compton SCITT is an Outstanding ITT provider (Ofsted 2017) and based at The Compton School. The continuing professional development of staff has been at the heart of our sustained success as an Ofsted graded Outstanding Teaching School (2018). We have an excellent track record in training, retaining and developing staff as outstanding classroom practitioners, middle and senior leaders.

Our trainee teachers train alongside The Compton School's outstanding staff all year before qualifying as teachers. Senior teachers from The Compton School and across the partnership, who are working on national programmes of education and regularly training teachers from across the UK, deliver first class training in school each week. This ensures our trainee teachers are receiving the best and most current education and theory practice.

Our strap line states that “trainees will receive an immersive training programme where they are working alongside outstanding teachers with current and relevant experience.”

The Compton SCITT has been training teachers for 5 years and is well established in producing excellent teachers. 100% of trainees have secured employment and have embarked on a most fantastic and rewarding career.
