About the course
St James's Teaching Partnership offers a comprehensive training package for all our trainees. Our Primary programme is led by our lead primary School St Peter's CE Primary School. We have experienced and fully trained professional and class mentors who are committed to developing the next generation of ‘Outstanding’ teachers.
Within our programme, trainees enjoy a blended programme which includes the following;
• Trainees benefit from at least one hour per week of class mentor input as well as at least one hour of weekly Professional Studies with the professional mentor.
• Attending group training session with the cohort of trainees, receiving high quality practitioner-led training, peer support and joint practice development opportunities.
• Trainees follow weekly themes which build up pedagogy and practice. Themes such as getting to know your school, how to write outstanding lesson plans, Early reading and phonics and teaching numeracy are to name but a few.
• School-led professional learning where you would be able to take advantage of a range of professional development opportunities within your own school and schools within the Partnership.
• Attending high quality training provided by other schools and the Teaching School throughout the year.
• Completing the Liverpool Hope PGCE elements to the course
• Focussed support and mentoring, by the very best practitioners within their own school.
• Trainees in primary schools are attached to a year group and are fully supported by the class teacher in their teaching.
• Opportunities to participate in extra-curricular clubs which allow them to make a wider contribution to the life and ethos of their school.
Throughout the year you will be very well supported. We are keen to see each individual trainee working to achieve the very best and enjoying success in their chosen career. We know professional development is a two way process. As such we will listen to you, work to identify your own development needs and support you in meeting your targets.
Towards the end of the Programme of training, trainees will be fully supported to seek and obtain employment.
Our interview process will be supported by staff from our Partnership schools. The interview process is broken down into two stages:
• Formal Interview- if successful at this point, you will be invited to stage two.
• Teaching Activity
We endeavour to inform applicants the outcome of their interview on the same day.
How school placements work
Each Partnership school has unique qualities and these are shared with the cohort whichever school trainees are based in for placements. With our Programme, trainees will start their journey into teaching by coming into school on the first day of term in September and immediately feel like part of the school. Trainees can be placed in any two of the partnership schools, Placements are decided by the partnership. Trainees will be placed in schools where the relevant key stage class mentor is outstanding, to allow the best possible learning journey for the trainee, this is organised in the following way; trainees are attached to the Placement A school for the majority of the year. They spend time in the contrasting placement B for 9 weeks in the spring term. Trainees will also experience aspects of a secondary setting to allow them to understand where primary pupils are moving to.

The course fees for 2020/2021 are as follows:
Preferably a 2:1, we will consider 2:2 honours in undergraduate degree.
GCSEs grade C/4 or above to include English Language, Maths & Science (can be pending). We will consider applicants who do not already have Science as we offer a Science Equivalency test. We will also accept Science equivalency tests from other ITT providers.
If studied degree in last 3 years one reference needs to be from university tutor.
Qualifications not accepted:
Key Skills. Adult Numeracy and Literacy. Human Biology and Human Physiology.

Head Teachers in the local areas are determined to attract outstanding practitioners into their schools and we work collaboratively to ensure our programme supports this.
