About the course
St James's Teaching Partnership offers a comprehensive training package for all our trainees. We have experienced and fully trained subject mentors who are committed to developing the next generation of ‘Outstanding’ teachers.
Within our programme, trainees enjoy a blended programme which includes the following;
• Trainees benefit from at least one hour per week of subject mentor input as well as at least one hour of weekly Professional Studies with the professional mentor.
• Attending group training session with the cohort of trainees, receiving high quality practitioner-led training, peer support and joint practice development opportunities.
• Trainees follow weekly themes which build up pedagogy and practice. Themes such as getting to know your school, how to write outstanding lesson plans, how to question pupils effectively to maximise learning and progress are to name but a few.
• School-led professional learning where you would be able to take advantage of a range of professional development opportunities within your own school and schools within the Partnership.
• Attending high quality training provided by other schools and the Teaching School throughout the year.
• Completing the Liverpool Hope PGCE elements to the course
• Focussed support and mentoring, by the very best practitioners within their own school.
• Trainees in secondary schools are attached to a form group and also gain PSHE experience from our trained PSHE mentors.
• Opportunities to participate in extra-curricular clubs which allow them to make a wider contribution to the life and ethos of their school.
Throughout the year you will be very well supported. We are keen to see each individual trainee working to achieve the very best and enjoying success in their chosen career. We know professional development is a two way process. As such we will listen to you, work to identify your own development needs and support you in meeting your targets.
Towards the end of the Programme of training, trainees will be fully supported to seek and obtain employment.
Our interview day will be supported by staff from our Partnership schools and the day consists of the following tasks:
• Group Task
• Written task
• Mini teach
• Formal interview.
We endeavour to inform applicants the outcome of their interview on the same day.
How school placements work
Each Partnership school has unique qualities and these are shared with the cohort whichever school trainees are based in for placements. With our Programme, trainees will start their journey into teaching by coming into school on the first day of term in September and immediately feel like part of the school. Trainees can be placed in any two of the partnership schools, Placements are decided by the partnership. Trainees will be placed in schools where the department is strong and the subject mentor is excellent, to allow the best possible learning journey for the trainee, this is organised in the following way;
Our programme follows an AB model, during the year you will be attached to two schools (placement A) for term 1 and carry out a contrasting placement in another Partnership school (placement B) for terms 2 & 3. This is designed to enhance and extend your knowledge of different teaching contexts, and of how pupils respond in different environments. Our programme will include a small amount of time looking at primary education and post 16 education so that trainees understand the full education journey of a pupil.

The course fees for 2020/2021 are as follows:
You’ll get a bursary of £15,000 if you have a degree of 2:2 or above in any subject.
You don’t have to apply for a bursary - if you’re eligible, you’ll automatically start receiving it once you begin your course. Find out about eligibility and how you’ll be paid.
You may also be eligible for a loan while you study.

Preferably 2:1 but will consider 2:2 UK Honours degree (or international equivalent), which must support the National Curriculum subject knowledge requirements
GCSEs grade C/4 or above in English Language and Mathematics (equivalency tests accepted from ITT Institutions, these can be pending at the time of application).
Qualifications not accepted:
Key Skills. Adult Numeracy and Literacy, OCR National Award.
We are looking for high quality graduates and career changers who want to make a difference to children and young people, to embark on our Initial Teacher Training Programme. We are looking to recruit outstanding trainees who have real potential to teach with the following personal qualities;
• Passion and knowledge in your subject area
• Ability to work as part of a team and maintain appropriate relationships
• Good organisational and time management skills
• Good level of literacy and numeracy skills
• Willingness to be involved in the wider life of the school/extracurricular activities
Those applicants who do not have a degree in the subject they wish to teach may be required to take up a subject knowledge enhancement course to confirm your place on a course. St James’s Teaching Partnership will assist in getting applicants onto a suitable SKE programme.

Our School Direct programme is bespoke to each individual trainee and your teacher training journey. But it doesn’t end there. As a National Teaching School we track your career once you qualify and support you throughout your professional development for years after you gain QTS. We have a vast CPD programme which we encourage all trainees to access during your training year. Our former trainees can access bespoke training as they develop into effective teachers, middle and senior leaders, should they wish to follow this career path.
Our partnership is made up of a wide variety of schools including both faith and non-faith schools. Currently there are 27 schools in our partnership and are all based in Bolton and Bury. Head Teachers in the local areas are determined to attract outstanding practitioners into their schools and we work collaboratively to ensure our programme supports this. We are proud to have four OUTSTANDING schools within our partnership showing excellence really is at the forefront of what we do.
About the accredited body
Our programme is run in collaboration with Liverpool Hope University, who have a Gold Standard in Teaching Excellence, ensuring our programme is of the highest quality. Liverpool Hope deliver the main PGCE elements to the course at our lead schools with trainees only attending Liverpool Hope for focussed Subject days (15 days) and Education conferences (3 days), meaning the rest of the time you are based at your placement schools.
Qualifications: on completion of our School Direct course you will be awarded a PGCE with 60 master credits, QTS and a church schools certificate all accredited by Liverpool Hope University.
