Interview process

Once your application is received on UCAS and references received, we will contact you to invite you to a selection/interview morning or afternoon. This will consist of a mixture of a 5 minute presentation (the topic of which will be given to you prior to the day) followed by an interview, some time in the classroom and a 30 minute written test.

How school placements work

If selected, a primary school (your home school) within Havering will be chosen based on your skill set and preferences you give at the interview stage. During term 2, you will have a second placement at a different primary school in the opposite key stage to which you have chosen. This ensures that by the end of the course you are confident and capable of teaching all ranges within a primary school setting. You also have a one day placement at a special needs school and a two day placement at a secondary school, again all within Havering.

About the accredited provider

TES Institute is committed to supporting school based teacher training, helping schools to create great teachers. Through their team of highly experienced Pathway Tutors working in partnership with schools and trainees, TES Institute combines the best of in-person and online learning to deliver truly flexible teacher training. TES institute works with 8 partnerships of schools across Essex, Suffolk and Kent, who work collaboratively to share best practice to develop and deliver high quality teacher training.

Training with disabilities and other needs

Havering Train2Teach recognises, celebrates and plans for diversity and equality. Our partnership schools are ones in which well-being and the principles of inclusion matter. All schools in the partnership are dedicated to achieving equality of opportunity where access hinges not on treating trainees in the same way, but on taking positive action to redress the inequalities faced by some trainees.

Havering Train2Teach schools are located across the borough in a variety of buildings, all with different facilities allowing for a suitable placement for trainees with disabilities to be found. We have been able to accommodate trainees with mobility issues who have needed to be located on a ground floor or who have had trouble standing for long periods of time. Practical adjustments to physical environments are part of each school’s accessibility plan and will be considered in individual cases.

By working closely with TES, reasonable variations can be made to allow access to the training plan and the delivery of information. Each new trainee has an initial need assessment (INA) which leads to a more individualised program for all.
