Why train in the Wider Ponteland Partnership?
During the course, students will spend 4 days per week in a school being trained by experienced teachers. Every Friday is spent either at a school within the partnership or at Northumbria University. The Friday training day will cover every aspect of teaching, including behaviour management, SEND; planning; ICT; along with bespoke training depending on your individual needs.
You will spend most of the time in your host school with one 6 week period in another school in the partnership during an assessed placement. There are two assessed placements one lasting 6 weeks and the other 10 when students are formally observed twice a week in order to improve practice. As well as this, there will be 2 assignments set by the university - these will be set along with taught sessions at the campus and a personal tutor. Finally there will be a portfolio of evidence to present to demonstrate your achievements against the teaching standards.

School Direct at Ponteland Primary is successful at supporting trainees into emplyment, with many students going straight into teaching jobs following the course, sometimes within the partnership itself.
Pastoral care and outstanding mentoring are another feature of the partnership. Students' wellbeing is paramount and our cohorts always work well together due to pre-course induction days and the opportunity to work collaboratively during the year.
Ponteland Primary coordinates the recruitment process on behalf of the partnership.
Following a short listing process, successful applicants will be invited for interview.
This will involve a full day spent at one of the schools. Each candidate will be expected to deliver a 20 minute maths activity to a group of 20 pupils from within the primary phase. There will also be the opportunity to talk to some staff, meet the lead mentor and participate in a group discussion with any other candidates during the morning. There may be a representative from our partner, Northumbria University at each of the interview days which will take place in clusters of 3 or 4 schools within the partnership.
Prior to interview, there will be a brief activity using books as a stimulus, which will then be discussed in the interview. The interviews will take place on the same day and will include questions on experiences and suitability for the course.
How school placements work
You will spend most of the time in your host school with one 6 week period in another school in the partnership during an assessed placement. The 6 week placement will take place during the second half of the autumn half term, finishing before the Christmas break.

All potential trainees will have GCSE (or equivalent) at C or above in English, maths and science.
Before beginning the course, students will have completed a relevant degree with a 2:1 or better, although applicants with a 2:2 may be considered if they have lots of experience in school.

We are pleased to be working in partnership with Northumbria University. Northumbria University is recognised by OFSTED as an outstanding provider of initial teacher education across all age phases.
The Wider Ponteland Partnership incorporates schools in the Ponteland, Cramlington and Morpeth partnerships. We are a group of schools comprising of 8 primary schools. The schools vary in size and character and include 4 faith schools. The schools work closely together to:
